How To Find God In Adversity

These days, it can be difficult to see the hand of God in events around the world. However, this problem is not new to God's people. In the 6th century BC, the city of Jerusalem and its institutions were destroyed, and the people taken into exile to Babylon. The feeling in the face of any disaster is one of anxiety and confusion.

In this study Dr Raymond Brown examines the cause behind this situation, how could it have been avoided and, perhaps more importantly, how to respond in times of crisis. Here we consider the purpose and structure of the book, divided into five songs. As students of the Old Testament know, Jeremiah's message was not accepted by the people of Jerusalem and the prophet was miserably treated by God’s rebellious people. Even so, Jeremiah deeply regrets the harsh consequences of disobeying God's will. However, God is not vengeful and is always willing to hear the cry of his people and respond to them with mercy and compassion.

This Old Testament book is very relevant to our day, given the devastation caused by coronavirus. God is always ready to help us. In times of adversity, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
